Dr. Mark Smaller is pleased to announce his election for President-elect of the American Psychoanalytic Association, the oldest psychoanalytic organization in the country, now in its 101st year. He thanks the membership for their support, and looks forward to leading APsaA toward more innovation in practice, education, research, advocacy and community service.
Mark D. Smaller, Ph.D., a psychoanalyst, works with adults, adolescents and children and practices in Chicago, Douglas and Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is on the faculty of the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis and the Institute for Clinical Social Work.
Dr. Smaller is the former Director of the Neuropsychoanalysis Foundation in New York.
He is also an organizational consultant working with small businesses, non-profit and professional organizations, and educational institutions.
He is the current and founding director of the Analytic Service to Adolescents Program (ASAP) – a joint in-school treatment and research project of Morton Alternative High School and the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis. He is also the founding Director of Great Expectations a program modeled after ASAP, at Saugatuck High School in Saugatuck Michigan.
As a member of the American Psychoanalytic Association, Dr. Smaller is Chairman of the Committee on Public Information, and former Chairman of the Committee on Social Issues and Co-Chairman of the Committee on Foundations.
Dr. Smaller serves on the Board of Trustees of the Neuropsychoanalysis Foundation, American Psychoanalytic Foundation; The Executive Committee of the International Society for Neuropsychoanalysis in London. He is a former board member of the Institute for Clinical Social Work, Chicago, and the CHICAGO Institute for Psychoanalysis.
Dr.Smaller is a recipient of the 2008 American Psychoanalytic Association Distinguished Service Award.
